The James Carter Organ Trio present "Trane: A Centennial Supreme", a tribute to John Coltrane on the centenary of his birth, at Teatro Cervantes on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 20:00, as part of the 40th Málaga International Jazz Festival.
"To celebrate the centenary of the master Coltrane (1926-1967), it's essential to focus not only on his astonishing catalogue, but also on the spirit that gave rise to it. In 1957 he had a spiritual awakening that was, in essence, a pact with God: he gave up all his vices at once and devoted his last ten years to giving thanks for the musical gift that, decades later, still inspires countless artists. Our goal is to celebrate Coltrane and join his spirit in these concerts," explains James Carter.
Songs to be played include "Syeeda's Song Flute", "Mr. P.C.", "Spiral", "Giant Steps", "Cousin Mary", "Naima", "Countdown" / "Skull Grabbin'", "Little Hat's" and "Coltrane Time".
James Carter (Detroit, 1969) stunned critics when he burst onto the New York scene in the early 1990s: his debut, "JC on the Set", released in Japan at age 23 and in the United States in 1993, was hailed as the best debut by a saxophonist in decades. A master of saxophones, flutes and clarinets, his virtuosity and eclectic discography have established him as one of the most explosive and original wind players in jazz.
James Carter (saxophones), Gerard Gibbs (piano and keyboards) and Alex White (drums).
