Jesús Méndez presents "Cantando en plata" at Teatro Cervantes on Monday 5 April 2027 at 20:00, as part of the Flamenco lo serás tú 2027 series.
"Cantando en plata" looks back on twenty-five years on stage with a clear message about the future, rooted in conviction and commitment to his own essence. He champions his singing tradition with a classic repertoire, though with refreshed lyrics and updated rhythms and melodies. It is, above all, a celebration.
Jesús Méndez (Jerez de la Frontera, 1984) is one of the most important voices in flamenco cante today, and the most interesting figure of his generation from his native Jerez. A nephew of La Paquera, he has inherited the "molten metal" sound of El Campillo, in the San Miguel neighbourhood, and the volcanic style of forebears such as Eduardo Méndez, El Pili and his grandmother Dolores. He has grown up alongside guitarists such as Gerardo Núñez, Moraíto, Manuel Parrilla, Diego del Morao, Antonio Rey and Manuel Valencia, performing everywhere from the United States to Japan and northern Europe.
Awards: El Taranto Trophy (2024), the Canal Sur Flamencoradio Award (2012), Breakthrough Artist at the Cumbre Flamenca de Murcia (2015) and the National Critics' Award for his debut album, "Jerez sin fronteras" (2008).
Jesús Méndez (cante), Diego del Morao (guitar), Ane Carrasco (percussion) and Diego Montoya and Manuel Salado (palmas).
Running time: 1 h 20 min, no interval.
